Christopher McPhillips: We Are Based in Scotland and Focus Exclusively in Scotland-based Clients

Christopher McPhillips of Artos Digital.

Where in Scotland are you located?

Bathgate, West Lothian

Tell us about yourself?

Artos Digital is an award-winning social media first marketing communications company, providing consultancy in social media management, copywriting and vlogging.

What lessons has being an entrepreneur taught you?

Authenticity, loyalty and perseverance are key to being successful in the long term.

If you could go back in time to when you first started your business, what piece of advice would you give yourself?

Although tempting when times are tough, never stray away from values. Even if you haven’t published them, stay true to them. Our values are Simple Authentic Content

A lot of entrepreneurs find it difficult to balance their work and personal lives. How have you found that?

Many entrepreneurs become so, to move away from the structures of employment or to never work within them in the first place.

Always remember that for you and your own employees if you have any. Happy personal lives will result in better performance, and your employees will always appreciate that.

What is the inspiration behind your business?

With the noise created by all of the social media platforms for the average person wanting to get involved to benefit their businesses or side hustles, it is pretty muggy.

We wanted to be an agency that cut through the noise and made entry and use of social media marketing accessible.

What do you think is your magic sauce? What sets you apart from the competitors?

Sticking to our values and focusing on the client experience and journey.

How have you found sales so far? Do you have any lessons you could pass on to other founders in the same market as you just starting out?

Say no when it’s not right. Revenue is nice to have but make sure it’s a good cultural fit.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced so far in your business, and how did you overcome it?

This goes back to our lessons learned about getting sales.

We struggled for a little bit saying no at first. Overcoming it was simply allowing ourselves to learn the lesson. We did it quickly.

What do you consider are the main strengths of operating your business in Scotland?

We are based in Scotland and focus exclusively in Scotland-based clients. Christopher is born and bred in Scotland, and Electra was born in Greece and lived in Scotland since 2008.

What if any are weaknesses of operating your business within Scotland?

None, our business operates exclusively in Scotland. Our cultural fit means we stay in Scotland. Perhaps in time, we could expand to the celtic nations. But, only if it still fits with our values and ambition.

What do you want to accomplish in the next 5 years with your business?

The next 5 years are crucial, and for the foreseeable, we will look to keep a steady ship. We will continue to work with exclusive clients.

Christopher has returned to university (Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh), and Electra is focusing on professional and career progression. Therefore, not taking on more than we can handle is our aim for the next 5 years.

And finally, if people want to get involved and learn more about your business, how should they do that?

We welcome everyone to check out our website and email [email protected] if they want to work with Artos Digital or want to gain some experience working with clients on live assignments.
